Some background: I have a 2020 TRD OR still running the stock tires and rims. Tires are ready to be replaced (I'm at about 35K miles) and for my next set, I would like a slightly larger tire with a more aggressive look. Currently no interest in getting a lift or doing any other mods, so as I understand, it would limit my size choices to the above.

My original plan was to keep my stock wheels and move up to a 265/75/16, but I do really like the look of an all-black rim. So if I end up replacing those as well, it opens up the possibility a 17 inch wheel with a 265/70/17.

So: more rubber vs more wheel.

Is there any advantage to either option? I'm leaning towards just replacing the tires for now and swapping out the wheels with some black TRDs in the future... but if moving up to 17inch wheels is a better option, would love to hear why.

EDIT: noticed a similar thread that answers a lot of these questions posted a few days ago. thanks for looking.

Get the wheel you like best. If it's 17, good. If it's 16, good. If they are the same, take the cheapest tire+wheel combo...

I have a 2nd gen dclb and personally I went with the 17s. I think 16s looks good on the dcsb and the ac models but 16s looked too small for the dclb. But that's just my opnion.

Ended up finding a good price on some 17" TRD 4Runner wheels... so looks like it's going to be 265/70/17. Will wait for Labor Day weekend to hopefully find a better deal on tires.

Here are the 265/70/R17s I went with on the 17" TRD 4 runner wheels. I think they look great, but the balance on the wheels is crap - no weights on some, tons on others. Ugly silver stick on weights kind of ruin the look. Will look to at least swap them out for black ones. IMG_1596.HEIC.jpg IMG_1597.HEIC.jpg
