    Howdy Y’all —

Recently I lost my grandfather who took me in as a teenager, and saw me through high school, college, and through the birth of my first child of my own. He lost his long battle with cancer on August 1st, 2023 shortly after turning 78 years old.

Among the things he passed down to me was his beloved truck — a 2001 Tacoma Base/SR5 2WD Regular Cab with 83k original miles. It’s the very car I learned to drive in as a child. He purchased the truck used as the 2nd owner in April 2009 with 60k miles for $8,999.

In his declining health, a lot of things on the truck he loved so much started to become neglected.

As I’ve been lurking here and learning all that I can, I’ve started slowly catching up on those things — fluid, filters, plugs, wires, tires, suspension etc, as well as doing some small mods.

I recently did some frame repair (my first ever time doing something of the sort) as well which I posted in another thread.

Here’s the truck on the day I took ownership:

And the results from my Sony CarPlay head unit installation ($79 on Walmart closeout, check local sales in-person):

…with a better USB mounting solution just waiting for an off-day to be installed.

Hoping to pick up more knowledge as I interact more here! :)

I had a 2002 single cab Prerunner. The radiator on mine was not exactly metal, more like a plastic/composite type construction. Check it closely for cracks.
