Not exactly challenging, but still sad commentary on that region of Phoenix. When I was scouting Phoenix in my Corolla 3 years ago, I was stopped from approaching the Sierra Estrellas by eith true off-road conditions or in the cse of Rainbow Valley by a rubble-pile blocking "W Chandler Heights Rd". I decided to cut from just outside Maricopa back into Rainbow Valley because I have the truck now.

But this road STILL exists in what is considered a valid community, and it is not due to monsoons either. Glad as hell I do not live in that community.

Great pictures and stories over the Labour Day weekend, thanks!
I popped my cherry yesterday, first time 4 wheeling in a 4x4 I owned. I picked up the Tacoma two weeks ago, I'm in love haha. Exploring around Tucker Lake Ab. Lots of smoke from the British Columbia fires.

Not off roading, but here's me at the base of El Capitan. Wild to think Alex Honald climbed that with no harness in under 2 hours.

Played around on Ophir Pass again today. In the process, I found the famous Dancing Aspens. Can't wait for October when I go back to photograph them in fall decor. IMG_2225.jpg

Decided to find a camp spot I’ve seen posted many times on here and YouTube. Luckily found it this time but in my wife’s 4Runner. Beautiful spot and will definitely be taking my truck back!

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Oh man that first picture is awesome!

Thanks! It was a great spot, looking to go back and camp there when we don’t just have a day. The original picture was taken zoomed out so it actually makes the mountain look smaller. This photo was just the standard setting in my iPhone 11. It really feels like you can reach out and touch the Mt. It’s pretty breath taking when you first round the corner and see it.

I found a new lake recently and yesterday returned to fish it with my belly boat. Proved to be too windy, so just did a bit of exploring and hiking in the area. Cows held me up for a half mile. Nowhere for them to go, so just followed behind them at a crawl.

Looks like they had important places to be! The new lake I found today apparently has Brooke trout in it so I think a fly rod is in order next trip!

Beautiful camping spot. Good thing the mountain has already blown its top.

Yeah hopefully it doesn’t blow during my lifetime. I see the beauty it could be with Mt St Helens being so close but Rainier is one of the most beautiful sights to see

    Scary things those large volcanoes.

Oh, when I left the lake yesterday, a couple other fishermen showed up. Really nice guys.

They drove a beautiful 1994 Toyota 4x4 pickup, extended cab and with a nice canopy on it.

It was not rebuilt or lifted and was in great shape. I was jealous. I recall he said 240K km, or about 150K miles.

It was pretty much the same as this picture from the web.

Wow! I had a 4runner in the same era and I miss that thing. I miss all my old Toyotas. It’s nice when you see an older one that hasn’t been beat up. I still have my 1985 runner that I lifted and did everything myself when I was 16-20…doing a rebuild now to try to correct everything I did wrong in my youth…I wish I’d have left it stock.

I think I've been there if it's a lonesome area and near crystal. I camped at the pass once, but never at the lake.

Looks like the same spot! It appeared the lake had a few camp sites if the pass was taken.

Yeah, the lake has nice sites and even a picnic shelter and pit toilet. It's a great area, but tricky to find.

Great photos. Grad student at UBC when I was doing my geology undergrad was there when it blew in 1980. Her series of stills show the avalanche/landslide triggered by the earthquake and then the subsequent eruption. They were used to piece together a short video of the eruption. She lead us on a field trip there when I was in fourth year.
