Hello! I have a 99 tacoma with the w59, essentially the base model that rwd and has nothing special to it, I have been wondering if it was possible to swap the axle from a later model like. 2003 or 2004 tacoma that has an lsd/disc brakes and go from there? I want to do this for both the disc brakes and the lsd that i think some later models have.

    Thank you!

Edit: i have read the threads that have done it for the 4wd models but since im not too familiar with all of that I don’t want to start buying this just for them not to fit. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to Tacoma World. I could be incorrect, but i don't believe any 1st gen Tacoma came factory with disk brakes or limited slip diffs in the rear. There are disk brake conversion kits you can buy online. As for the rear diff, some models did come with a factory TRD electronic locking diff. What is your end goal for the truck? Road/track or offroad?

    Welcome to the Forum!!

Spend some more time doing research!

Tacoma`s came from the factory with a electrical mechanical locker in the rear axle. That is very different then a limited Slip Differential .

As of 2023 no rear disc brakes .

You can swap a 4Runner rear axle with disc brakes with some fabrication some axles even were able to be built with the locker. I have never seen one in person yet.

The options are out there but if your sourcing the job out it will get expensive .

    Best of luck!!

Thanks! My whole plan with the truck would be to make for track if i ever decide to take it there. I also just like the added bonus of having rear disc brakes for the cool factor. Since these tacomas are relatively small i would like to make it more track oriented rather than off-road. For the main factor being that living in south florida there aren't really many opportunities to go off roading.

Thanks! Yeah thats pretty much what Im trying to tackle. I’ve spent a good amount of time looking into swapping the axle, but i think im just gonna swap out the differential for one with more long range gearing as my daily commutes are about 40 to 60 miles a day so changing the diff would help out with that. Thanks!

Makes sense. Best of luck with the rear end and you should post some pictures of the progress in the future!

    Bivouac has good idea
Lots of crap/measurements/math/drive shaft to think of
    Anything can be done!!!!

    my Q idea to accomplish
    Use same drive shaft
    But
Relocate the frame mounted leaf spring mounts
Unk if frame kick ups or bed arches would be next issue thou
