I was under the truck this morning just looking over everything as I was greasing zerks and this control module looking thing that goes onto my transfer case looks to have a hose that’s cracked and came offIMG_6869.jpgIMG_6871.jpgi snipped off the part of the tube that had split below and pressed it back into place after I realized it had no wires inside it and it wasn’t electrical… I know it has to be there for a good reason so what problems would this cause if not attached? Could it cause transfer case or transmission to malfunction if it weren’t attached? Thansk in advance

I can definitely say it caused a slight vibe when accelerating. I was greasing zerks knowing that I’d done them less than a month ago again bc of a slight vibe I was getting under acceleration. Reattaching this tube has made the vibration go away. Thank God bc it was starting to worry me that my transmission was starting slip or shudder

Not 100%, but likely the TC vent tube.

If it was causing a vibration on acceleration it's probably a vacuum line of some sort.

Pull it off while idling and check for vacuum.

Not sure if the 3rd gen & 1st gen are the same, but this happened on my 2003. It wouldn't switch into 4 wheel drive. Checked the transfer case & found that there was a vacuum line that was cracked like yours. Cut the end off & reattached the line. Worked great after that.

It is simply a vent tube for the t-case actuator box/housing.

Your t-case actuator is not vacuum controlled at all.

Snipping off the cracked portion and putting it back on is A-Ok. It being cracked and dangling could not have been the source of a vibration while driving.

Thanks for all the responses and you’re all right after further inspection that wasn’t causing the slight vibes. I had overfilled my transmission by about a .75 quarts when I installed transmission cooler a few weeks back. Just drained it and refilled bc I finally was able to get the level plug broke loose
