Hey Guys so I was on Tacoma Lifestyle and was gonna get these new headlights its asking if I have a sr5 converter or a TRD. I bought this truck used so I am not sure. I did a Vin Lookup and it says I have a SR5 Grade Trim. Does that mean I get the sr5 converter?

Any aftermarket headlights are going to be a huge downgrade from stock. Best to stay OEM and use upgraded halogen bulbs, or upgrade to the very best OEM LED which requires an adapter harness.

Lots of information in the 3rd Gen headlight thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

    TLDR:
    1) OEM LED swap is by far the best upgrade available
    2) German Philips H9 swap in the low beam is best for the OEM halogens
    3) Tungsram Platinum H11s perform best for pnp H11 bulbs if you don't want to swap to H9

Past few times at the local auto parts I’ve seen philips but not German made.
Are they hard to track down?

Philips does not distinguish between German or Chinese. The same part number applies to both, so there is no way to tell for sure other than looking at the back of the bulb in person. In reality the Chinese ones are very close to the German ones and still definitely worthwhile.

I believe the TRD's come up as SR5s as well depending on where you look. Can you take a pic of your headlights?

Awesome, I’ll look into doing that.

Thanks for all of your info and comprehensive tests that you’ve posted, it’s a lot of effort!!

Hello I have a 2022 trail edition and bought the Alpharex Luxx headlights and although they give good light output I'm not really loving them and would love a set of the OEM TRD style head lights but haven't been able to find a suitable way to convert them any ideas? or do you guys know any where i can purchase a harness?

Welcome to the forum. You are in the right place, @Puppypunter above makes the harnesses to install the OEM LED headlights into trims that didn't come with them from the factory.

    Thanks @crashnburn80
I do make them. They retain the stalk functionality as well. So they turn off and dim when they are supposed to. It's all plug and play, so not hard to install at all.

Curious, which year oem led headlight will work, because it looks like some of the new ones have a sequential effect in the drl as a turn signal?

I’m guessing they’re expensive and a dealer item?
