After 3 years with my 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road the final elusive buzz/rattle has been eradicated.

When I first got the truck I read this forum and learned about friction tape. Bought some and did all the doors along the accessory panels and the tweeter covers. That eliminated all but one buzz/rattle coming from the steering column/tachometer areas.

This one was elusive and only made a noise on certain textured road surfaces and would last for only seconds. I stuck folded paper into any crevice that seemed reasonable and nothing worked.

I tried off an on for 3 years then gave up. One day I remembered reading here in the forum someone stuck foam between the dash and windshield.

So I stuck a piece of foam into the dash/windshield above the driver side and it worked! No buzz/rattle. Completely gone.

Having zeros buzz/rattles makes driving the truck feel so much more solid. Very happy. Loving my Tacoma even more.

Here’s a picture for anyone having a similar issue.

    Picture not uploading.

I have one I can’t figure out on the passenger side. Separate from the seat belt buckle hitting the b pillar which I haven’t solved for either. Sounds like it’s in the fender or kick panel or door but I’ve gone through what I can and I don’t see it anywhere.

Definitely got some relief with Tessa tape on the tweeter grille tabs. And I think my stock tweeters were loose at one point, now they are aftermaket and secured snugly.

The closest part to my rattle source is the relay for my 2 lo mod but I’ve checked that and it seems very well secured.

I think I maybe need to remove the passenger airbag again and tape the connectors from the 2 low mod behind it with tape as a next step.

Chasing these down sure is fun, isn’t it?

I’ve resorted to using pennies nickels and dimes to add tension between two rattling pieces of interior trim. It is a nightmare chasing down the damn rattles.

Tracking down rattles/squeaks is pretty satisfying. I rolled in the hatch area of my buddy’s VW GTI trying pin down a random annoying squeak. I eventually located it in the reflector inside his rear tail light assembly. Had to pull the tail light assembly completely apart & use some superglue to secure the offending plastic squeaky bit.

Also tracked down an annoying squeak in my Mazda CX-5. Thought it was the rear hatch latching assembly but turns out several nuts holding my spoiler had come loose & fallen off their bolts entirely, allowing the spoiler to move laterally, causing the squeaking.

I’m yet to encounter any squeaks or rattles in the Tacoma, but I’m locked & loaded if ever they do present themselves
