Yo, this was clutch!!!

 

Well, with Toyota and their notorious issues of frame rot… I feel like this is a less complex question than you think. What’s the old saying? “Shoot first, and ask questions later… or, Better safe than sorry.” MD is definitely prone to good storms. We’ve had snow as early as October in recent years. Even when there’s a chance a storm could hit, MD likes to spend their budget and coat the roads.

As for my truck, I had it undercoated at Jones Junction. I believe it was like $300ish but they added a warranty I believe of 10 years for frame coverage. It was a no brainer when I bought the truck. A lot of guys swear by the WoolWax coating. I can’t contest, simply because I’ve never used it… but I’ve never heard anything bad other than you do have to reapply it every so often.

All in all, save yourself the headache, and get something on there to cover your butt.

Do they do the “it’s a crime to pay more than a dime” commercials? Those are the worst.

I dissent a bit from the popular opinion on here. Undercoating will not hurt, but in the “southern” state of Maryland, for the few times a year (if that) they salt the roads, washing off the undercarriage after the weather should suffice.

If you stay local (aka don’t go north in the winter), don’t plan on driving the truck for 500k miles, and keep it clean in the winter, I wouldn’t say undercoating is totally necessary. But once again, it will not hurt.

Or maybe that’s my justification. But to be fair, there’s a reasonably high probability my truck never returns to MD

Morning all

 

Long time lurker here living in the peoples republic of Glen Burnie. Regarding coating the frame, i just did this after having my 2014 for 3 years(this October). The frame has been treated by Toyota per their guidelines. But I went the route of PB Blaster Surface Shield. I used just about 3 cans to treat my entire frame. Since i had a can of fluid film and the 360 spray wand for it, i used that product for the rockers and parts of the frame that are enclosed. All in all, dropping the spare, taking off undercarriage shields, it took me all of about 90 minutes to complete. Pic of my rig for y’all.

Despite everything going on with my back these past weeks, I was able to make it out and to watch my sons first soccer game of the new fall season… he and his team crushed it, 4-0!! It was awesome!!



Headed home and passed @2ndhandTacoman out riding around in hit T4R… good looking truck!

I agree 10000%. My first car was that color and I was so upset when I learned they don’t make the tacos that color any more.

 

Me too… I’m hoping I find 4K in a couch or something to get my truck wrapped in a nice forest green…
