Hey guys , have a question. I have a 2gen Tacoma with the 4.0 V 6. I am running the OEM Oil filter purchased from the dealer. I was changing my oil this morning and when I went to remove the filter on oil grained out . The truck sat over night . I have never had this happen before . Oil alwaysed grained out . So my question is what does this mean and is that harmful to the engine?

I think he meant oil drained out of the oil filter, which would be normal. If it didn't before, the anti drain valve was not doing its job right.

If by grained you mean drained, and by on you mean no, I would guess that the anti drainback valve on your old filter went bad and stopped keeping oil up in the engine above it.

I think he meant this time it DIDN'T drain out (on meant no) and that it always drained out before. Probably a drain valve problem this time around.

That is exactly what I meant. Thank you for understanding what I meant ! I was in a hurry and didn't check my spelling guys . Thanks for the replys ! So no harm was done by the drain valve not doing its job and the oil was still being filtered?

The anti drainback valve is part of the oil filter and keeps oil up in the engine when the engine is shut off, so that when you go to start it next time, oil is right there for the parts. Bad valve means oil drains back into the pan, and when you go to start, if the oil all drained back, the parts would be moving without oil for a second or two. It could eventually be a problem, but if you didn't hear any noises or anything then I wouldn't be too concerned.

When you change the filter, the engine loses all of it's oil anyways so every time you do an oil change you create the same situation. Not that that's good, but just a fact of how things work. If you didn't hear any weird oil related noises I would not be worried.

Oil was still being filter, yes.
