Thanks! Been riding for almost a full year now and I love it. Big reason I pulled the trigger on a Tacoma is so that me and my lady (who also rides a Sportster) can take our bikes on trips out of town. Sporty’s definitely aren’t the most comfortable to ride for hours upon hours, but I love ripping it around town and even a few hours away. I’m 6’3 and have been thinking about sizing up my bike, but with a truck payment in the fold, that’s definitely getting pushed back a while but I’m fine with that. I changed out the exhaust and bars (along with a few other things) this summer and it’s riding great.

That's just mother nature trying to whiz off the skid marks of DC. You're just caught in the same bowl.

The bike had this muffler scratch when I bought it that has bothered me from day one. Paint scratch and a scuff on the stainless cap. This pic wasn't taken to represent that but it's the best I have of it .

So naturally I wanted to remove the end cap and repaint it, which ended up with me promptly stripping the heads of the seized stainless screws. Was committed at that point and drilled the heads off.
Got lucky drilling the remains and removing with an ez-out.

And repainted it last night with some Rustoleum BBQ paint. Cleaned the scuff off the cap with a damp Scotchbrite pad.
    The result.

Now I feel better about it.

Were you using the right screwdriver? If it looks like a Philip head with a dot like the pic below, then it's a Japanese Industry Standard head. Not uncommon on Japanese bikes, and it requires a different screwdriver. A Philip head can strip them.

I do have one of those but every bolt/screw on the bike is allen head. These were stainless screws #4 and #5 that I have managed to strip out. And yes my allen wrenches are good.
After I stripped the first 3 on the fairings, I replaced all of them with non-stainless and it hasn't been a problem since.
Although they may rust a bit.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

Sportster can be ridden extremely long distances if properly set up for it. Friend of mine has over 330k miles on a 2005 Sporty incuding riding the Iron Butt Rally 5 times on it. Your height would be the limiting factor for you.

They definitely can be, but mine is not set up that way in the slightest haha. I love my Sporty and I’ll have it for life, whether I upsize or not.

You are doing it wrong. That was the perfect excuse to get an aftermarket exhaust. Stripping the screws was a sign that you should have gotten a new exhaust!

Stock exhausts are usually the most quiet. All my bikes have stock exhausts for that reason.

The only stock exhaust that's been modified is the dirtbike with a larger factory Yamaha tip as there is a significant performance difference there.

How's that XD4 treating you @Deathbysnusnu ? Saw it in your cemetery pic in the game thread. Did we give you bad advice, or is the hand made in Japan quality worth it?

It's been worth it so far, no complaints. Already taken it apart and back together again to fully understand how everything works, definitely nice quality. That visor has been the biggest improvement for sun during early mornings and late afternoons.

Yeah, some of my evening rides have made me think about putting the peak back on. I pulled it because I wanted the cleaner look and less wind drag, but it'd be nice to have on those early/late rides. Maybe when they do an update they'll spoil us with an internal sun visor. I doubt it, but I would love it. :fingerscrossed:
