Crutchfield is definitely the way to go, their support is really good. Sometimes OE radios are almost as much as aftermarket options, but doesn't hurt to price out

I've mentioned before, but probably not in this thread, that I've been doing business with Crutchfield since the mid 1980s in the paper catalog and 1-800 number days. The few times I've needed tech support they were great and the one time that they couldn't figure out the problem, they refunded the money and let me order another radio.

From the few prices I've seen (ebay) OEM radios are as much as twice as much as after market even when I add in the adapter cables.

I figured with them still being so new they would still be pricey. My dad has been using Crutchfield since at least the 90s if not earlier. I've been using them since 2010

About the mid 1990s for me, couldn't afford to earlier haha.

Never owned a vehicle with wheel controls but everyone I know who has experienced no issues with their recommendations in that department as well

I was always doing stereo installs for friends, myself, kids, and even some people who paid me to do it.

Kind of the reverse of what I did in the auto salvage business where I pulled stereos out of wrecks so we could sell them.

The last one I did was a few years ago for my daughter's Honda Civic. That included the steering wheel controls, adding a back up camera, and a device so that she could keep her factory clock. Kind of fiddly as they say. Especially since I had the radio shipped to here, then had her ship the accessories to me. I did the wire harness build at home and shipped that along with the tools I'd need to her. When we got down there I did the work, fortunately she had an apartment with an underground garage so I was out of the TX summer heat.

So, I can clearly do the work, the hardest part of which was assembling the cables and programming the adapter so that everything worked.

Just have to decide if I can live without Android Auto or not.

Any issues with yours. I'd like to replace mine at some pi t. Restarts randomly, freezes randomly, but not consistent at all. Works 99 percent of the time

I've had it happen a couple of times maybe in the years I've had it. The couple times it's happened while I was running nav with OSMAnd it didn't even lose the nav state. It's not enough to make me want to try something else. Given how much I like the unit, I'm perfectly willing to overlook it.

If you do, def get the one with a physical volume knob. It's got a smaller screen than the newer/est versions, but even with steering wheel controls it's really nice to be able to just reach up and spin the knob real quick instead of mashing the steering wheel button 19 times or trying to find the right part of the smooth glass surface to touch 19 times.

I agree. The wife kept asking what I wanted to do for my birthday and given it was supposed to be rotten I basically said it's a wash, but it looks like I could have gotten outside for vehicle cleaning extravaganza, minus the humidity. They're gross.
