There is so much info for on-road performance of A/T tires, but it seems harder to find off-road opinions. I'm looking to get new 285/75R16 tires on 8in wide wheels. I currently have load range E KO2's and they have served me great off-road, although I did just tear a sidewall for the first time in a few sets of them.

I'm looking for opinions on off-road performance and durability in a 285/75r16 load range E tire. Minimal mud use, mostly desert or mountains with gravel/dirt roads, sand, rock, sharp rock, and roots. Going between the durable and tested KO2, or Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. I've heard the Wildpeaks aren't as durable and throw gravel like crazy. I'm mostly between this two because they also do well in snow and on road, I don't care about rain performance, and I know the KO2 do well in snow here from experience.

Anyone have experience here, off road specific experience?

It’s not one of the tires you mentioned, but I have been extremely happy with the offroad Preformance of my General Grabber ATXs. They are 3PMS rated and are very good in the snow. I’m running E rated 265/75/16’s right now but when they wear out I would definitely run them again. They do come in 285/75/16 (E rated).

I wrote a lengthy review in one of the last pages of my build thread if you’re curious. I’m not saying it’s the best tire out there but I have been all over the US and Canada, on and off road with them and never once been stuck. I have about 35K miles on this set.

Thanks, I'll look into that one too. Anyone else?

    Yeah.
I've been happy with my E-rated KO2's, no real experience with anything else. If you have been happy with yours, why change?

I have not run KO2s so I can't tell you for sure. I've been happy with the Wildpeaks. Most reviews I've read from people who ran both say that the KO2s do better on the rocks and mud but the Wildpeaks are the superior tire for rain and snow.

In reality, go with whichever set is cheaper. You'll be happy either way.

Yeah, been happy with the KO2 but figured on road could be better in snow. Just seems harder to find info on the wildpeaks for off-road use and durability

For dedicated desert use, the KO2s are utter garbage. Mediocre traction at best and get torn to shreds in no time. This is from 15 years of operating a fleet of trucks that provide off-road law enforcement and public safety response. I dislike the Duratracs because they are impossible to keep balanced, but they provide better traction and wear than the KO2s. The Wildpeak AT3W has great wear and traction, and are more affordable than either. I currently have the Maxxis Razr AT on my personal vehicle. While I don't push that one as hard as the work trucks, they are shaping up to be one of my favorites.
