Today I was helping a friend with some projects on his 1997 Tacoma. 2.4L engine, extra cab, 4WD, manual. One of the projects was installing the Spiker Engineering @SpikerEng hood struts. We ran into a clearance issue between the passenger side strut and the cruise control module. Looking on the Spiker site I don't see a note regarding clearance for the first gen Tacoma, but I do see a note about 4 cylinder 3rd gen 4Runners having a clearance issue requiring moving the cruise control module. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this issue, and if so has any information regarding moving the cruise control module.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I just removed all the cruise control parts.

Just how much room do you need ?

Pictures are always a great help.

I haven't heard of this issue on the Tacoma, but I bet it's very similar to the 4Runner. Here are a couple of photos of how folks have moved the module slightly.

It looks like we need about an inch more clearance than we have. With the cover for the cruise control removed it does fit, but the strut just touches the the moving parts of the module, and having that uncovered doesn't seem like the safest option.

I couldn't get a shot of it closed to show the clearance, but with the strut disconnected you can se how it pays in this picture.

Thanks for the pictures. Does moving it like that require any changes to the module itself to retain function, or do the cables still pull correctly?

No other changes needed, you're only moving it about an inch, the cables will be fine.

I didn't get an after picture, but we recreated what is pictured and it worked great. Everything clears easily now. We dropped the fender mount holes by about 1.5", and then once those were mounted up figured out where the lower foot would land and marked and drilled the lower bracket to fit the new location. Great product and great customer service.
