    Started my build today

    3/4" sandeply

It's going to be covered in grey Formica Laminate and edged with black T-molding.

will be 39" in-between and fit a twin sized mattress or futon.

auxiliary batter and power panel will be added later

Built a tray thing last minute for this trip I'm on. Camper shell didn't get here in time and needed a covered bed. Had the drawer slides for the drawer I had originally planned on. Pretty sure I spent more on screws and nuts than wood. Bought a 5/8 cheap sheet from home Depot, like $40.

Also enjoying my @BamBeds system. The versatility has been pretty awesome. I often slide board against the tailgate up onto the middle one to haul bigger stuff. Ez pz

Usually have a single mattress back there for relaxing on my lunch breaks. Currently looking for a midrise shell with vented windoors

got some work done on the other half, now all i need to do is cut out holes for 12v sockets and 2 cup holders, then take it all apart and cut the slots for t-molding and then laminate it all. power panel will probably be a winter project.

was going to go the complicated route of trying to assemble and laminate so no screw heads would be showing, but decided that just makes a silly amount of work for myself figuring out how to do it that way. next weekend hopefully i'll finish cutting the t-molding, laminate and screw it all back together.

now i'm trying to decide the best way to hold cargo in place, each side is 69" long, so i'm thinking of just putting hooks on the corners and use these type of tailgate cargo nets on each side

    https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-U...e&sprefix=70+cargo+net,automotive,198&sr=1-11

also bought some rail anchors so i can just mount them right to the OEM rails.

    yea…kinda haha
I kept my decked drawers in for now since I have a big Moab trip coming up and didn’t want to run out of time but I used the other 1010 extrusion for a rear seat platform/drawers.

I’ll pull out the decked system after I finish my trip and move to CO and then build the bed drawers.

Interested to see what your “propped” setup looks like. I’m 5’10”-ish and sleep diagonally no problem, but would like to put my fridge back in the bed and still be able to sleep back there.

I am also 5'10" and if you don't mind sleeping slightly propped up it works out pretty well. With my exped megamat I keep it just a little under inflated and I fold under about 1-2' of it (enough so it fills the length of my platform) after inflated. Wrap it with a bungie to keep it folded and set up your sleeping bag or whatever on top. Flip it around If you prefer your legs elevated or head propped up.

    Interesting.

Dirty, but not in the ground dirty, like stored in the back of the garage dirty.

thought i might be able to get mine finished this weekend, but i'm not even 1/2 done, took like 30 minutes today making the switch panel, only to realize my switches aren't long enough to go through 3/4" ply, so i built it again out of 1/4" birch only to fuck it up trimming the laminate because my router won't drop down far enough in the table. so i'm starting again tomorrow but i ordered a switch panel from Amazon so i just have to trim out a rough rectangle and screw it on.

then i cut all my laminate into pieces for each side of the boards and realized i didn't have enough to do the door for the battery compartment so i had to order another $70 sheet of laminate.

and just now i dropped about another $175 for wiring(25ft each of red and black 2awg), terminals, 120a fuse holder, new OEM battery terminals, 6 way fuse box.

oh and i also bought a amazon fire 10 refurbished on sale for $79. I think that will be the best low power solution for watching movies. picked up a vesa mount stand at a local thrift store the other day and modified it and ordered a Vesa tablet holder to attach to it.

    next payday, it's a 100ah agm, 2 x 100w solar panels, and a controller.

tray slide thing worked pretty well over the trip. if i were to do something similar again, i would have the slide go all the way to the tailgate. i had to take a couple things out whenever i wanted to pull the slide all the way out. even if you dont get full 60 inch slides, just have the slide thing go all the way to the tailgate.

next iteration will be a drawer, but will probably be in a month or two

managed to get a few more pieces laminated today before i ran out of contact cement, have to grab some more on the way home from work tomorrow.

and also finished putting together my tablet holder setup that i modified from a desktop monitor arm.

probably going to spend a few minutes tonight 3d modeling the cupholders

    Just the basics
Nice work. Have you considered a bedrug? It cuts down on dust intrusion.

I thought about it but I put seal kit on the tailgate instead. and am going to replace the inner tailgate panel with the flat ABS one from hooke-road.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IPQWXZQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

and the great thing about laminate is i can just wipe it down with a wet cloth or wetwip or whatever and pretty much nothing will stick to it permanently

I built it to all be easily removable(each side only weights maybe 15-20lbs) in case i need to do truck stuff. but the more i think about after the wiring/battery/solar in the spring, only the passenger side will easily removable.

    Very impressive workmanship!

Also seal the tailgate across the hinge point to the bed- duct tape, a sheet of rubber, etc. I have that done and seals at the side of the tailgate, and across the bottom of the cap glass, and still get plenty of dust when driving long dry dirt roads, so they can't be totally sealed like a car trunk.
