Do you carry spare axle/hub parts for your TT?

    New to pulling a travel trailer but not new to towing. We have a single-axle camper. Does anyone carry spare axle parts, spindle, bearings, hub, Etc?

    If you do, what do you keep in the truck?

    I don't. In 20+ years of towing a TT I have never needed any of that.

    What I do is replace the bearings if they are old and chuck the old ones in my travel kit. Same with wipers belts etc.

    Maintenance trumps spares though, repack and servicing bearings makes them last forever.

    Not my travel trailer but for my boat trailer I carry a spare set of bearings and a grease gun. For the travel trailer you just need to do maintenance on them. Depending on the yearly mileage I inspect and repack the bearings every 2 years. If your travel trailer is used then you should pull , inspect, and repack the bearings just to be sure they are ok.

    Yep, always carry a loaded hub for single axle trailers
    Cheap and nice to have. Tandems can go a ways on three tires

    I don't carry any of those, but it's not a bad idea if you have the cargo capacity.....I have to watch every pound.

    Heres a suggestion that I think few people think of. When towing a boat or travel trailer I carry an infrared thermometer.
    When I stop for gas or some other reason I check the temperature of the hubs. If the hubs are running hot you have a problem. Also if only one hub is running hot you may as well take care of it soon cause it is going to fail. Just remember if the sun is shining on one side, that hub may run quite a bit hotter than the one on the other side. You can get an accurate infrared thermometer for under $20 at various places including Harbor Freight. They are simple to use, just aim it and pull the trigger/switch. In about 2 seconds you get a digital temperature reading.

    Thanks everyone for the great advice.

    The trailer is new so the bearings should be good to go for 2 years. I'm running a TPMS with pressure and temp. monitoring but the IR gun is a great idea. I have one so worth keeping to the toolkit.

    Full service and repack every 2 years with inspection in between.

    Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    In the olden days I did But I found out no matter what I had along a parts run was needed to be up and running.

    Where it get scary is when things are old enough parts can be hard to find.
