Ya I have pretty frequently used 4hi and occasionally 4lo and always tried to engage them regularly to keep things moving.

Unless you test the limit switches as posted in the link of post #4, we can’t really help you any more.
We need more information to help you.

I'm curious how unplugging the 4wd ECU got the truck in 2wdo_O

    Me too.
Doing that kills powers and grounds to the actuator motors…….

    To elaborate……
If it was stuck in 4 Low.
It will stay stuck in 4 low if the 4WD ECU is unplugged.
Unless you manually shift the transfer case.

    I know it’s off topic.
But reading that repair order makes me cringe a bit.
I know I might get some hate from some of the techs on here.

But $160 to “Clean and Adjust Brakes” after already charging $376 for front brakes?
Unless those drums are seize to the axle……come on really?

As far as I was told they unplugged the ECU and opened up the transfer case to manually disengage.

I think they seen that I have out of state plates and decided to see if they could grease me.

Mentioned it in another comment but as far as they told me they unplugged the ecu and opened up the transfer case to manually disengage.

Ok that makes more sense then.

At this point you basically have 3 options:

Leave it as is and not have 4wd.

Follow the tests to see what part is suspect and go from there.

Start replacing parts and hope that fixes it.

Not uncommon for this to happen unfortunately especially at dealerships.
