Greeting all. I've just joined and thought I'd share a bit about my 1997 Tacoma. It's a regular cab 4x4 5-speed and is probably the most unmodified example you'll ever see. I recently inherited it from a relative who purchased it new, and he's put only ~70K miles on it in the last 26 years.

At this point, I don't intend to make any major mods. The bumpers could use some updating due to some significant rust on the back one and a minor dent up front. I'll also need some new tires and would consider getting something slightly more AT-like. The original wheels have some relatively minor surface rust also, so I may consider having them cleaned up/blasted and painted. No rush on any of this though as everything is working just fine at this point.

That's all for now! I look forward to learning what everyone else has done with their 1st gens.

WOW! Awesomely clean truck, that thing would fetch a very pretty penny, but I wold keep it for sure.

I inherited my 1996 way back in 2010, and it had about 74k miles then haha. Same wheels and tire size as yours too back then

Thankfully, it's been garage-kept for the last 19 years, so the frame's in really good shape. That said, should I be looking into applying a rust-protectant film...or does that potentially cause more harm than good?
