Front Bumper - Chrome or Body Color from factory?

My 03 Tacoma V6 4x4 Limited has a body color front bumper and chrome rear bumper.

I always thought it came that way, but a friend just commented that it probably had a chrome front bumper originally.

Does anyone know how they came from the factory?

 

My uncles 01 SR5 had both chrome bumpers front and rear

My 03 has color both, and color fender flares. I see a lot of posts about rust breaking through the chrome. On mine the absolute worst rust on the entire truck was the inside of the skidplate (fixed,) and still is, inside the front bumper, rear not so bad.

Color fender flares on mine too.

Rust is breaking through the front bumper.
Rear bumper chrome is mint.

 

So someone probably had a rusted out rear and replaced it (???)
