As many of you may know a deer took the front end of my truck out a few weeks ago. I have it all but put back together now. New radiator, etc. etc. So, I find myself wondering what's up with transmission fluid coolers these days. We’ve been pretty consistently logging days of 106 to 112° of late. With a lot of offerings out there. And from what I see they go from one extreme to the other in price, size, etc., etc.

To the point, with this rebuild, I am considering the addition of a transmission Fluid Cooler. While searching through TW archives. I was able to find posts but most seemed rather dated in their recommendations. With this sort of thing, there’s always something new or better being offered, maybe ideas on the how-to side of it.

For consideration, my truck is a 2.7 L automatic. I do pull a fairly light 5 x 12 kayak trailer pretty regularly. I am quite sure that it in no way taxes the truck ability. Guessing maybe a total weight of less than 500lbs. Trailer included.

So what I’m asking. Is for those who may have a well-engineered or designed system. Who would be willing to share how they went about it. And what components they used. Maybe a line schematic of layout, and product recommendations. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Also before closing. As a result of this deer strike. I also lost a NEW driver-side Diode, Dynamic SS3 Fog Light. It was the SS3 LED, Max, Type B Fog, Yellow Lens, 38.5 Watts, Yellow Bulb Color, 3000K, 3,500 lm, Amber Backlight, Kit backlit. If anyone has one or a set at a good price, I would be happy to hear about this as well.

I actually had an OE set up and decided to give it a go. I guess I've got the notion that it. Beats not having one at all.

My 15 has the factory cooler. I did add this beast a few years ago. Gave me 3.5 extra qrts of fluid. My temps normal driving on 110 degree day is about 180. IMG_1003.jpgIMG_1001.jpg

Man, what an add-on. It's beautiful. Not that I wouldn't invest on such a level for my Beloved Taco. Just not the right application for my on-road-only 2.7L. I feel pretty sure it would be underutilized in this application. I don't recall your mentioning brand etc...

PML covers is the brand. I got it half off since it was a demo pan. They were looking for Tacomas so I volunteered. Gave some feedback with photos.

Very nice but would be $500+ cdn and would probably not help my current setup. $500 would cover a lot of drain and fills. You got a bargain at 1/2 price...

I have to agree, if this is a proven mechanism over long-term use. And the quality is there. It is hands down the best choice for anyone that wants to run a thermostatic control system. I don’t know much about Hayden but I have seen it most of my life here and there. Very interesting. Thanks for taking the time. Very helpful.

What is the over all consensus on spin on transmission fluid filters? Since I have this thing down, I’ve been looking at the in-line magnetics, etc. etc. and can’t get past the ease of spinning a filter on and off periodically. I don’t know if they’re magnetic. But I feel pretty sure the convenience is superior and the filter media is limited only to the filter you choose to run. I don’t know much about what is or is not out there. Or if one is better than another but. I am looking hard at the Derale 13090 Transmission Filter Kit.

That's even better than 1/2 of or current price of $365.. They even charge almost $100 to to give the outside a black powder coat.
And $75 to drill and tap a 1/8 inch NPT hole for a temp sender (come on now, 10 seconds to drill hole and 30 seconds to run a tap through it for $75)
