All you guys with the 2.7 engine, how do you change out the oil filter without getting oil all over your arm? I tried the plastic bag trick where you wrap a bag around the filter while spinning it & oil still gets all over. Is there an easier way, or any special tool you can use to remove the oil filter without the mess? What do you guys do? Thanks.

Good idea. I like the notion of punching the hole. You could also use a cup to spin it loose.

^ if you're quick you can do it without getting oil anywhere but your glove. No need to do anything special.

If you do the cup method, do yourself a favor and use one of the clear 20oZ ones, it will actually contain most of the oil unlike a 12oZ solo cup.

A little of this and a little of that.
I’ve used a gallon size zip-lock bag in the past and it works well enough.

Now I use a large funnel (8” dia.) and place it under the filter. I have a piece of clear tubing attached to the funnel tip so that it will go into my drain pan. While holding the funnel in place, unscrew the filter and all of the oil drains into it. The filter can drop right into the funnel.

OK. So you do this from under the truck then or from on top?

I do this from under the truck.

I always raise the truck and support it with jack stands when I’m changing the oil.

Oil Udder XL for me. Perfect fit and zero drop. Just slowly twist and remove. Speed is your enemy.

All you need is a piece of cardboard. Use a wrench to crack the filter just loose enough to unscrew with your fingers. Then hold the cardboard along the side of the engine and twist the oil filter slowly and then stop and let it drip. Once the majority of the oil has rushed out finish twisting the filter off, while keeping it upright.

I bought one, it will not work without replacing the clamp, the included clamp is way too big to fit the filter. And even if the clamp did fit, the tap sits too high on the filter to fully drain it. Sadly, not worth the money at all.

I have found that spinning the filter off into an empty 32oz yogurt container is the best mess-free option.

Cut off about the bottom 1/4 of a 2 liter soda bottle. Works great!

Form-A-Funnel works great for me. It's rubber with wire inside that you can bend to fit the shape you want.
