Poor older guy ran into the side of my truck when I was driving through an intersection in the pouring rain. Passenger side it pretty beat up and the box is shifted 2 inches towards the side that got hit. Estimate was 14K before they even looked underneath or opened the doors up. Very sad, I was secretly hoping it would get written off but there are no 2024s available to replace with.

That is the most sheet-metal-est area on the truck. Repairs will be hard if possible at all. But not nearly as hard as repairing your body - glad 1 out of 2 made it ok.

Have them check for frame damage. Frame may have been bent due to impact transferred from the slider directly to the frame. On the other hand seems like the slider got the brunt of the impact and protected the sides well. Without it, damage would have been a lot worse. .

I’m not sure why you are wishing that the insurance company would consider your truck “totaled”.

Your insurance policy might be different, but in most cases you are insured to an amount that is the minimum of the cost to repair the vehicle and the vehicle’s fair market value prior to the accident. This will rarely equal the cost of a brand new vehicle of the same make/model/trim/etc.

Generally, you also have the option of receiving a check and doing whatever you want with it, e.g. making a down payment on a new vehicle.

I think there is a common misconception that “totaled” means the insurance company buys you a new vehicle.

Glad you are OK. I had that happen years ago when a very old woman who had oxygen tubes hooked up, t-boned me in an inter-section. I don't even think she knew she was in an accident!

Glad you were sitting opposite side from the hit.
Door repairs are expensive but doesn’t look totaled from this pic.

Vital mechanicals look relatively spared so hopefully once fixed, you’ll still get a boatload of miles from it. Good luck.

Really dude? REALLY? I'm 68 and have been in one fender-bender in the last 30 years. And guess what? It was some 'Fkn' kid on his cell phone not paying attention.

    That sucks, eh?

I totaled my first new vehicle before it even had 2,000 miles on it. (‘95 Ranger “Reggie White Edition”) with a nearly identically placed impact.

    Glad you’re OK.

You definitely stepped in it there dude. Did you hate your parents? Did they not give you all the toys you thought your privileged ass should have.
While young adults are at the highest risk for fatal crashes, young drivers under the age of 25 are at the highest risk for motor vehicle crashes in general. Fkn young ppl (kidding, I am of course kidding)
