I think wireless carplay uses the GPS radio on the stereo and not the phone. I used the external antenna that came with the Pioneer unit before I got the adapter. I had the external unit inside the dash and the signal was a noisy. Waze shows the speed of the vehicle the screen and it was not accurate and jumped around a lot. I think the external antenna would have been fine if I had it on the dash rather than in the dash.

Have you updated the firmware? There have been 2 updates since I bought my DMX906S in November 2019. Mine only occasionally would reboot, like once a month. Hasn’t happened since the latest firmware update.

OK, I popped on the new version. I'm going to take this as an excuse to do a Tacoma road trip, make sure it's working.

CarPlay actually uses the vehicle gps. I know because I accidentally connected to the satellite radio antenna instead of gps and it was all over the place.

This is what came with mine. You are technically supposed to mount it on the dash but it works fine buried under it

Reviving this thread….hmm. I’ve been using the ACC-SAT-TO2 adapter for the GPS with two different Kenwood head units (DMX957XR & DMX958XR) for over a year now. The factory GPS antenna accurately gets the time/date onto the radio, and it allows me to authorize wireless CarPlay to function, but then it never works. When wireless CP goes to automatically kick on, it tells me I need a gps antenna plugged in. Makes no sense. Thoughts?
