Curious what other mods you have done. I'm running 5.29s, 275/70R17, KDMAXX and get significantly worse mileage.

I've got full steel skids, slider, RCI cab rack, RSI shell, Icon Stage 3 lift.

What is 5th and 6th gear rpm at 75 mph with the 265/75/16?

I have stock skids, steel sliders, front/rear steel HC bumpers, Eibach Stage 2 front/rear 2.5" lift and aftermarket wheels

My son gets 13mpg when he drive my truck so the weight of your foot will significantly affect your mpg

Hard to believe that my shell and RCI skids would have that big of an impact on MPG. Otherwise we're pretty close

Yeah, I guess maybe it comes to driving style, terrain, traffic, etc. I can easily get 14-15mpg city if I am a little heavier with my foot but I try to keep it light.

75MPH is reading 2500RPM on 5.29s 265/75/16 and KDMAXX tune, holds gears and shifts smooth(MPG on that 1200 mi trip was avg 15). 1st gear on 5.29s is very low, as my truck usually shits to 2nd by 5/10MPH. Overall, the gear swap has been the most important upgrade for the truck IMO.

I’m in the early stages of researching a re-gear for my truck and I just wanted to say thanks for this post. 100% the most informative single post I’ve ever read here.

4.88 just installed with 33” tires 3” lift and steel front/rear bumpers with KDmax tune. Excellent balance throughout the power band. 75 mph at 2000 RPM. Almost done with break in, getting just over 18 MPG vs 16mpg average between city and Highway. Before re gear 16.5 mpg. No way would 5.29 be better unless I was running bigger tires and or over-landing. Went with Nitro have slight howl associated with Nitros but it’s very low sounding. I can’t imagine loosing the top end with 5.29’s. I know it’s not a track car but speed limits here are as high as 80mph here and need even faster to overtake and pass another car on highway.

And here I am, I've been wanting to get a decked for a few months.

    Probably needed to read that.

Still on edge, but it knocked me back from pulling the trigger by a fair bit.

Sorry to ruin it for you. I went with an Alu Cab shell and its so much better to have all that space in there.
The decked system might be ok on a full sized truck, but on the Tacoma it's just silly. I guess it depends what you would need it for, but definitely does more harm than good imo. I can't think of a situation where it's beneficial to have it over a shell. Yeah, a shell is going to cost more, but it's so much more functional.
    Just my two cents.

The plan for me is, get a prinsu rack (access cab) get a leitner storage thing, and get a decked.

Currently doing a rear seat delete for storage shelves, might as well tackle some bed boxes that actually open up all the way
