Good night everybody. So i got a question got this tacoma 145k miles and it wont start. I replaced the battery, took down the starter and tested it outside and its working properly, now what else should i check? I took the oil down and no milky oil just old. The motor will turn slowly half a turn and then will just stop. Any recommendations where should i start? Could be the timing chain?. Any help would be appreciated.

Just because the starter works off the truck doesn’t mean it’s good.
When you say motor will turn slowly half a turn.
Is this with the starter or by hand?

Its with the starter. Havent tried turning it by hand. I tought i had a stuck engine but turning it with the starter a few times dont think it is. Disnt saw traces of metal or water in the oil.

Starter has too be pulled out and tested under stress at an auto parts store.
While you have it check to make sure your flywheel teeth are all there.

Try turning it by hand with a socket and bar on the crank bolt.

Update. Ok so i took the valve cover off and the spark plugs, was able to turn it a 1/4 of the wheel diamator since the pull bar hit the radiator hose and dosnt let me go any further. Sounded like a squeaky noise when i pull but pistons does move up and down and blow small comprension with that 1/4 of a turn. I know this engines comes with some gearings behind the crankshaft could it be somth inside there?

In that case I would definitely pull the oil pan and have a look around, that should give you a better look at anything obstructing the crank from turning.

Yeah thays my next step tomorrow. I know rhe 4cyl engines have 3 rotors in the front and a small chain. Dunno if that could possibly be.

You have the Crank Shaft that drives the two Cam Shafts and also the Balance Shaft with another small chain.
