I bought these American Racing Baja 16 inch rims for $200.00 off a facebook marketplace seller.

    They are alloy rims.

He told me that two of the rims the back side had scrapes due to the suspension rubbing on the rims.

I was wondering if this may be just a cosmetic issue or could it be a bigger issue down the road?

    Can they be fixed?

Seems like 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch of alloy was rubbed off.

    See images below.

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks guys!

Looks fine to me, but I'd take them to a wheel repair shop. They will at least balance them.

I wouldn't run them. But that's just IMO. You will get a ton of different answers here on the internet.

I have to agree. Maybe it just shaved some material, maybe it introduced a couple of microfractures, feel free to roll the dice if you wish. Same with balancing. Maybe they will be easy to balance, maybe not. Feel free to roll the dice.

Me, I would not have bought them in the first place.

The microfractures and strength are what I'd be worried about. Wheels are rated to handle a certain weight. That goes out the window when you remove too much material.

    4 run, 2 don't
    I wouldn't have bothered.

Though I'd take the two good ones and make them into full-sized spares.

Run a 5 or 6 wheel rotation once you buy a set of matching, and non-damaged wheels with all matching tires.

So it is a concern. Thanks guys for your opinions.

    My follow up question.

If I buy a pair of the same brand and model rim to replace the compromised rims would this be alright?

The other two rims are in good condition no dents or major scratches

Keep the 2 good ones, and sell off the 2 others as spares

Or use one or both as a stand for tools or something in the shop

So after much opinions about concern for possible micro fractures. I contacted the seller. He said he would take them back.

That's a good man. Most people are shady.

Thank you guys. If I didn't ask I would've had them installed like that.
