Dual exhaust mpg gain

I’m new here. Have 23 trd off-road. 3rd Tacoma and love it. Got a dual exhaust by mbrp. Vehicle computer shows a mpg gain of 2 in city and almost 4 on freeway. I wasn’t expecting any gain. Maybe a small power gain but nothing shocking. Has anyone had this with a dual?

Welcome to TW! Perhaps now that you can hear how much throttle you are "giving it" you are a bit lighter on the throttle, improving your MPG. If weather / conditions are like for like, MPG will not change with an exhaust.

 

Lol... 10-20% mpg gains


If a simple dual exhaust could do that on the Tacoma Toyota would of already done it....

Average it over a few tanks, do the math properly by hand, I doubt you would notice a difference

That doesn’t seem unreasonable especially after seeing some of the dyno info I’ve seen online. Making the air pump more efficient can have huge gains for some. I always find it interesting how much a specific engine type can vary based on minor variations in the internal components, and how just a half pound of pressure difference in a valve spring can have a huge impact on performance. You may be one of the lucky ones that everything in the engine is spot on. I had a Tundra like that, and would get about 20% greater mileage and power than other vehicles of the same model. Don’t let those that tell you it’s not possible get to you. This is something worth looking into. I wonder what kind of performance a Tacoma would get if the stock engine was balanced and blueprinted for optimal output and efficiency. Not sure it would be worth the $8-10k to do it though. Most just throw a super charger on it and hope for the best.

 

Stock mufflers are not a restriction, at worst they limit flow at wide open.
