Hey all. I'm pretty defeated so excuse me for rambling. I have a P0012 code I've been fighting and I'm stumped
    What I've done:
    - new OCV/VVT solenoid
    - new camshaft position sensor
    - new oil pressure switch
    - timing looks to be good and in order
    - timing tensioners look to have about 3/8" out, which from what I've gathered should be good
    - seafoam in engine with brand new oil
    - stuck a paper clip/zip tie down the OCV holes to try and clear gunk

I have the URD cam gears installed and a tune from HP tuners. However I've put 10k miles on since then. Problem first occurred while I was driving up a hill going 80mph. It actually first started as p0022, p0022, p0018 but now it's only throwing p0012. Please give any insight. Thanks!

Have you checked the screens for the VVT system?

    Was the OCV OEM?
Do you have a scan tool that does bi-directional control?

@Dm93 i cleaned the screen on the bank 1 side where the problem is occurring but even pre cleaning they were clean as a whistle. The OCV was dorman, I saw another tacomaworld user used dorman and had no issue, do you think I should try OEM?

I have a Walmart scanner and HPTuners, would either one of those work?

    thanks!!

I mean you could have a defective one but I would want to run the bi-direction test on the timing solenoids to see if they are moving the timing or not.
You could also take it out and apply power to it and see if it moves properly.

I know HP Tuners doesn't do bi-directional control and I doubt any scanner that Walmart sells does either, all the scan tools I've seen at walmart only to basic codes and data.
Post the model of your scanner and I can tell you if it does or not.

You have the freeze frame from the code. Also not saying it's the problem because I don't know but, for future I would recommend against aftermarket parts for especially engine critical/running parts

@joba27n I will get the freeze frame tomorrow and post it to here. I will also take note for OEM only in the future. Thank you!

Yea those are read only tools, they don't do functional tests.
