Don’t back your truck into your garage and inadvertently shut the garage door opener release cord in your back door. It ain’t pretty when that metal arm comes down after you start driving away. And you have no idea what the loud crashing noise is. You look under the truck, check behind it, shrug and get back inside. You see cracks in your windshield (the pics aren’t good enough to post). Then you look on the outside….BEWARE! I don’t think the module behind the mirror was damaged but we’ll see.

    Oh my!

That's almost as bad as hitting the door down button when backing out and hearing the scrape on the roof. Then instead of hitting the door up, attempt to drive forward to clear it. I've heard that's happened before.

Great tip to share. I am already in the habit of putting my vehicles in the street when I pull the cord. I never thought about the garage door hitting a vehicle, just did not want grease on my vehicles when greasing my Genie screw drive track. Sorry for your damage and thanks again for sharing

It’s going to be around $1200 for an OEM replacement and installation. Insurance will cover it. I think this print, which I had a copy hanging on my office wall, sums it up. If I can keep one person from going through this, it will have been worth it. My cord is a lot shorter now!

And do not back into your garage with your canopy back window up. Especially after wondering why the lights inside seemed brighter than usual in your rear view mirror.

    Non yet.
If you leave a car parked outside with a remote in it, make sure you turn garage door off at night so it can’t be opened by the remotes in the cars. Even if they’re locked.

Based on that photo, I'd say your module is likely fine. Unfortunately you'll definitely need a new windshield.

Don 't know why your cord was so low that you could catch it in the door. Just checked mine and it the same height as the top of the garage door. I tied another loop in in in case. No reason it should be low.

Not to long ago I hooked the motorcycle hitch carrier I had just gotten that day on a railing outside my apartment complex while driving very slowly. The truck stopped. I was wondering why but since I was going slow and on a slight incline I figured I’d just give it a bit more gas. Bent/ruined the aluminum hitch carrier and ripped the railing out of the ground/bent it.
