    Hey all,

I'm in the process of retrofitting projectors into my 1st Gen (2000). I bought aftermarket headlamps and after reading that stripping the chrome from them with oven cleaner would expose black plastic, I found a tan plastic underneath. So I ran to home depot, bought matte finish spray paint, roughed up the housings with sandpaper and then sprayed them black.

Only after spraying them did I read kn the back that it should not be applied to surfaces that exceed 200F. Well I'll be baking them at 270F to get the lenses back on. Here's my question:

Will baking them mess up the paint finish?

Also, will it mess up the projectors being inside if the paint gets messed up in the process?

Looking to hear from people that have done this before.

    Thank you!

I think you should be fine. I used color matched auto paint on mine and never had any issues. You might be a little at risk with paint chipping during the reassembly process if you didn't use adhesion promoter though. Just be gentle with the edges.

I appreciate the reply. I finished one this morning and ended up using a heat gun instead. It turned out pretty good. It wasn't too hard either. I just used pliers to pinch it together and made my way around. When I came back around to where I started I saw the other side had lifted again so I used the metal clamps the lamps came with to keep it together as I went back around again.
