Thanks for sharing insight on that.
I guess it happened on a Land Cruiser also, per my service rep at the dealer (we get along well).

I am here to confirm your belief. --- With an MT, the engine will turn over using a non-chip key, but it will not start or run.

Have personally tested this with a dealership cut, non-chip key. I immediately swapped to my chipped key and the engine started perfectly (so, not an eng issue).

Should I try replacing the batteries in my key then?
Tested the battery for voltage and cold start cranking power and it all seemed fine. Dropped from 12.46 to 10.5ish after starting and then went immediately up to 13.9ish where it should be idling with the alternator.

Ok, hold on. We have contradictory info here.

I was under the impression that when you turned the key the starter did nothing - silence.
Now you are saying it "cranks but then stops" -- 2 different situations.

    RE: voltage
12.46 volts is just over 80% state of charge and a healthy battery with good connections shouldn't ever drop anywhere near 10.5 volts.

You need to have the battery load tested, preferably with a real tester that puts about a 300 amp load on the battery with a carbon pile resistance.

The tester will be about the size of an old school lunchbox.

Your fob battery only powers the lock/unlock feature with a manual transmission.

The security chip works like the one on a credit card, it doesn't need the battery to work.

Wow my fuckin head hurts reading this.
Maybe he needs to fill the spare tire… DDDDDUUUUUUUUUUU.
First thing is when it happens. Let go of the key. Do not take it out, don’t return to off.
Push clutch cancel button. Turn the key to start again. Report back.
How many floor mats you have in that thing?

Do you have aftermarket floor mats by chance?

I had an issue with my manual not starting and someone on here pointed it out to me that sometimes the clutch doesn't fully engage with aftermarket floor mats.

When I put my Tacoma floor mats back in, I never had that problem again.

The clutch reaches to the floor no issue. The white button is pressed in when starting the truck(safety switch). Checked the clutch pedal and its bracket. I found that the master cylinder rod has a ton of wiggle room. Basically I have a dead zone when you first start pressing it in. Plastic clutch pedal to a metal piston? I’m assuming there is allowable adjustment since there is a jam nut on the rod. When I push my clutch it has about 1/2” to 1” of play before it starts to push the rod into the cylinder.

Would this prevent the clutch from coming in contact with the safety switch?
