Up for the annual property taxes on my 2019 TRD/OR, state wants $450. Maybe that’s not bad compared to California or NY, and I guess that I should be happy that these trucks hold their value so well. In SC, you can ask for a reduction of the tax for high mileage, which I had done every year on my 2007 Tacoma with 300k miles, and got a significant tax break. So I thought, I’m at 100k, let me see what break they will give me… $23 reduction, I’m not complaining, just thought it was funny.

In Wisconsin we have no such tax.

Kentucky has a similar “personal property” tax, but it wasn’t as high as SC’s…at least as of 2021 it wasn’t. In Ohio, there is no such tax. However, my Ohio Real Estate Property taxes are DOUBLE what Kentucky’s was. I’d go back to my Old Kentucky Home in a heartbeat if I could.

I'm sure this thread about taxes won't have any posts resulting in bans, just like every thread about taxes before this one. :cookiemonster:

Texas is weird about it. Only leased vehicles get hit with the prop tax, and most local counties choose to waive that tax. But if you are unlucky enough to live in a county that doesn't waive the tax, you get a surprise bill from the leasing company every March.

Is this on paper a "property tax", or the fee to renew your plates?

I was paying the equivalent of $180 every two years for plate renewal until last year, when the fee was waived by the government as a means of vote-buying ahead of an election (yep political).

Its a combination property tax and plate renewal, the plate renewal is $40 for two years.

^Interesting. Never heard of vehicle property taxes before. We just have high sales tax (13%) and high excise taxes built into gasoline prices (which I guess makes the tax directly scalable to usage).

Here in GA it's a one time ad-valorem / sales tax when you buy the vehicle, and then like $20 every year after.

No annual tax in Michigan. Just the tax on initial purchase and then your normal registration fee. No inspections either. I suppose that helps make up for the highest insurance rates in the nation.
