At about 6:20, there's a surprising statement I didn't know - I've been using their oil filters under the YZZ part numbers. It's the ONLY type of filter I've gotten when I go to the dealer and say I need a filter.

Apparently, the filters with YZZ is NOT the same as the filter that comes on their cars/trucks AS FIRST INSTALLED when new - he doesn't make clear how you can get the ORIGINAL, other than to say it's pretty hard to find.

The original 90915-20004 oil filter for a Gen 2 Tacoma is somewhere between no longer available and really difficult to find.

Toyota's official US parts website (parts.toyota.com) shows the original part number superseded by the YZZ variant. Perhaps the other one is still available as a world market or JDM option.

Many manufacturers have a different filter that comes on the engine new from the factory and the one that the parts counter sells.

On Ford for example the factory filter that comes on a new vehicle is just a plain white filter with FoMoCo and a number on it in black letters but the filter that parts sells is going to be Motocraft and a different number.

Yea that's likely a big reason for it.
