Looks great. Are most folks using synthetic cord these days, or is steel still the way to go?

Depends. A lot of guys are running synthetic for the reduced weight, ease of set up, safer to use, etc. The downside is it's not as durable if being dragged across rocks, etc.

I think with most people moving to synthetic they're trying to clear out the steel line ones.

I have the same winch but with the synthetic line.

    It's a good winch.

Looks like there are a bunch of vendors blowing these out right now at that price.

Steel will be 20 pounds heavier than synth - 92 pounds vs 72 pounds. Both materials need regular maintenance and inspection, with synthetic needing a hair less maintenance and perhaps a hair more inspection. Saving 300 bucks for sacrificing 20 pounds doesnt seem so bad.

(Id rather have zero pounds and zero dollars for something that I might use once or twice, but that's me.) :cookiemonster::cookiemonster:

I was considering the synthetic but idk, feels like a badlands synthetic when the once in a while 25% off coupon comes around is also tempting since you get a wireless controller and 2k lb rating increase

I have 2 of them. Both came with steel and I converted to synthetic which requires a different fairlead. There is a recall on the handheld remote. So if these are of that age you will need to contact Warn and get a new remote. Other than that, a good winch at a good price.

that’s the harbor freight brand right? Curious how those hold up. Wireless would be great.

x2 I'm willing to bet he uses those winches more than anyone. If they were garbage he wouldn't run them. I do wonder if HF is sponsoring him though, just a thought. On that note when you're knee deep in shit or have a customers 80k truck hanging off a cliff you want your equipment to work period. So yeah the Badlands stuff must be pretty damn good.

Thanks for posting the winch deal. Mine arrived today. I couldn't find it for less $$ anywhere else. Free shipping & submitted the rebate forms with Warn.

Looks like it only includes the wired remote now. The sticker was an add-on (not part of the original print on the box)

I've been in 3 recovery situations where a synthetic cable snapped...0 situations where a steel cable snapped. Your choice though.

Rebate is increased to $150 on the 8k, 10k and 12k varieties of this winch thru 12/15. Looks like I'll be getting one of these, instead of the Engo I had my eye on

    Work on this? Lol

edit: it’s specifically for steel lines. $269 seems ridiculously cheap
