Did I ever tell you guys about the time I needed a different container to transport a firearm from ABQ to Sacramento? I was stuck at the airport and figured I’d just have to surrender my weapon and get on the plane. The counter guy said hold on and called “a guy.” Within minutes, a local mid-ranking cop pulls up in a patrol car, motions to the passenger seat, hits the siren, starts blasting Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” and races me to a local gun shop for a new case. “I’m your Angel of Mercy,” he told me. He also told me a condensed life story and teared up at one point. TRUE STORY.

Actually I don't mind. Can't demand freedom and then say "Well, except for xxx." Doesn't work that way.

Not hard to do. Pretty simple over here and a minimalist on that front.

Now that dude is a serious bro. Men of the world need more of that type of comradery.

Hyundai/Kia really is a huge part of the problem though. Of course these fatherless losers committing the crimes are the primary ones at fault and nothing reduces their culpability, and they should be prosecuted to the absolute max sentencing available. However, Hyundai/Kia owes society a debt by their completely inept engineering and even worse their cowardly inability to take responsibility for their garbage engineering and fix the affected vehicles. There should have been a recall to fix the issue 5-10 years ago. Now there has been hundreds of millions in property damage and innocent people killed because Hyundai/Kia have done the equivalent of leaving a loaded gun sitting in every parking lot for any psychotic low life to pick up and point at normal good people for fun.

USA is one of the last places where auto manufacturers aren't mandated by law to have immobilizer ignition chips.

    Harass your local politicians

I have a friend who grew up in South Africa. He told me how when they moved to those chips, thieves moved from stealing unoccupied cars to carjacking (following the driver to their vehicle to steal the key).

He said car stealing went from being a property crime to an assault (and in some cases murder).

I know the USA is hardly comparable to South Africa in terms of violence , but the point is sometimes the technology advancement just changes the crime (and sometimes for the worse).

I opted for a steering wheel lock and a Viper 5906-V.

Rest of the (civilized) world has immobilizer keys and car jackings aren't a huge issue

Well, I never thought I’d see broad daylight armed robbery attempts in someone’s driveway either, but this was all over the news this past weekend.

I’m not saying that immobilizers are going to create mass carjackings. I’m simply stating that to steal a car with an immobilization key, the likely method will be something like this.

I just think of it as the rule of unintended consequences. Solve one issue, create a new problem.

It is probably nothing, but it is where my head went.

This thread is support for the silliness of keyless entry.
