I brought a Tacoma 2017 from Mexico and can't pass state inspection in MA, because OBD Monitor results in Catalyst Heater, Evaporative System, Secondary Air system, A/C system and Oxigen Sensor Heater were UNSUPPORTED. I went to the dealership, they said that it doesn't have EVAP and O2 Heater monitors. It was checked and state inspection center and they said that probably the monitors have to re-reprogrammed to USA standards, because they might have Mexican standards. Does the Mexican Tacoma really don't have this monitors? If it has them, can they be re-programmed?

Check your emissions label under the hood, if it's a Mexico spec truck it probably doesn't meet US emissions requirements and you probably won't be able to register it in a state with emissions testing unless there's some provision for an exemption.

It may not even be equipped with the systems/sensors nessesary to run those monitors even if you could find a way to enable them.

I’m in NY, I had a co-worker who would drive to Vermont to register his cars to avoid NY inspection. You do not have to be a resident of Vermont to register a vehicle.

I'm not sure what the emissions standards are in Mexico but I doubt they are as strict as the US, in the US anything with an engine is required to have an emissions label listing the standards it meets and emissions control systems it's equipped with.

It's odd they even allowed a Mexico spec truck to be imported into the US, I thought there were import restrictions on vehicles from other countries.

There are quite a few for Mexican vehicles that some people skirt by being allowed to drive here for a year.

    No issues for Canadian vehicles.

Not surprising, I believe Canada's emissions and safety standards are very similar to the US.
