I have a 05 Tacoma with 3.5 lift, if I wanted to run 305/70r16 what wheel spacer would best work for that setup?

All depends on your wheels, suspension and alignment.

    305-70-17 with 1” spacers on 17x8 -10 offset.

are you looking to wheel or just cruise around town? How much are you willing to cut? That makes a difference.

Don’t assume you need wheel spacers just because you’re getting bigger tires or you could run into some major rubbing issues depending on your alignment specs, wheel specs, type of driving you do, modifications to the truck, etc. If you are using your stock wheels, they are too skinny for a 305 and you should go with a 285. If you go with a 285 and the stock wheels, I would then get Spidertrax 1.25” spacers. It will poke your tires just outside of the wheel wells. If you are using aftermarket wheels preferably get a 9 or 10 inch wide wheel, because most 305s state a minimum of 8.5” wheel width.

I have 0.85” lift in the front and a stock rear end with 305/70R16s on 16x10” -25 offset American Racing wheels. My truck sits 0.5” lower in the front than the rear.

    I had to:
    1. Chop my cab mount
    2. Bend the pinch weld in the wheel well flat with a sledge hammer
    3. Bend in the corners of the fenders (body panel too, not just cut off plastic)
    4. Remove the stock fender flares
    5. Extend my factory bump stops with some wide washers so they hit a little sooner instead of my tires hitting my fenders when the suspension compresses
    6. Install aftermarket high caster upper control arms and align it to +8 degrees of caster
    And finally…
    7. Cut about 1.5 square feet of plastic per side off

All just to make it so I could go off-road without rubbing, and that’s with no wheel spacers at all. I still rub in a couple spots too, you have to know where your tire sits when the suspension is fully compressed to know where to trim. I used to have 2.5” of lift but it was causing other issues like worn CV boots and stuff, so I lowered the back end all the way back down and the front almost all the way.IMG_1842.jpg IMG_1843.jpg

I would like to get mud graps 305/70r16 and keep my 3rd gen eom stock wheels would I need spacers? I currently have a 3.5inch suspension lift. I don’t go off-roading so I don’t mind if the tires rub a little bit

Those 305s are going to look like a fat man squeezed into skinny jeans with the stock wheels. 285/75R16’s would fit the narrow stock wheels way better, and you would not need spacers but you could get some if you want the look. Just look at my post above and you can see all that I’ve had to do to fit 305/70R16’s. I could not turn with those tires until I cut my frame, and I originally had 2.5” of lift. The suspension compresses even on the road and you WILL hit your fenders and/or cab mount with 33” diameter tires if you are turning. 285s being skinnier you can sometimes get away with just getting an alignment with as much positive caster as you can possibly get, but most people do the cab mount chop for those too. Trust me, I tried 4 different tire sizes and 3 different sets of wheels on my truck.

Thanks man, and doing a cab mount chop doesn’t affect getting an inspection sticker?

I’m not sure, at least in California we don’t have an annual inspection, just smog every couple years. You may want to call your DMV and ask if frame modifications would fail an inspection. Sorry, wish I had more info on that one! Oh and another reason I forgot to mention not to do a 305 on a 7” wide OEM wheel is because it will bow out the tread and cause the middle of the tread to wear out prematurely
