So I've had a commercial ARE cap on my 04 since the beginning, and it didn't ever affect the vehicle because there isn't a whole pile of electronics on the back of the cab. But if the current model vehicle lines are any clue, that back of the cab electronics package will have 360 camera capability, flip up for camera rearview mirrors, and bed lights all wrapped into one. Of course, putting a full topper in the back is going to block all of that. Has anyone successfully moved that electronics package to the back of a topper?

Current 360 camera package puts them in side mirrors and tailgate, having a topper won’t cause any negative effects to 360. Maybe if Toyota uses a camera that’s newer than 1997 you’ll be able to see the 360 view too.

The 4th gen will have the option for LED bed lights that go on the sides and should have the CHMSL camera in the CHMSL on some models. That camera and CHMSL lights would be blocked with a cab but the bed lights would not be.
