Hey guys- what do you all use to mark the bass knob level (assuming it doesn't come with a stock painted white line?) mine just had a groove in the bass knob and I got a very fine white paint pen and marked it but then started thinking about possibly a glow in the dark paint line to see at night bc i can't see it (have it to the left of steering wheel in a blank)

My preferred spot was under the main switches but couldn't justify ripping apart the dash to do a clean install.

Definitely happy with this spot though, and my phone still fits in that little cubby

Sorry for digging up this thread (ill probably bump more tonight) but what did you do with the previous cig lighter that would go in that hole?

Im looking at installing an extra USB port for my daughter in the back seat of my truck, so was thinking to cut the wires from that lighter you removed and run wires down the console to the rear for another cigarette lighter or usb port... Did you just push the lighter behind the dash or what?

I unplugged it and then modified the housing to mount the bass knob. The power wires that go to it are laying back there so I could replace the lighter unit and plug it back in if I have to.

You could probably extend the wiring without chopping anything.

Does anyone know if this JL audio bass knob in my hand will fit right in this corner where my finger is pointing, didn’t know if anyone had a picture of what it looks like behind this…

Center console. It's a knob that I don't fiddle with very often, so I wanted it hidden. It's easy to access when I need it, it's out of sight for when I want to leave it alone.

The switch plate? It's fused to the lower dash with plastic welds. Mesos website has a tutorial on how to pull the lower dash. It's... involved. :cookiemonster:

Basically all of this has to come out.

Pretty sure this is a JL knob. Everything else is & it fit.

It was roughly a four beer job. It would have been a two beer if I wasn't relocating some switches to the overhead.

that's a gen 2, gen 3 the blanks are slightly narrower. i'm not so sure the jl knob will fit.

ok, i've got one of the RLC knobs from my old carpc install-- it will just barely clear the dash obstructions of the blank plate, but the blank itself needs to be substantially altered on the back with a dremel. the knob also needs to be taken out of the plastic enclosure.

Your installation looks very clean! Can you tell us which knob you used and explain how you installed it? I'm about to put in a sub and would like to do the same thing. Thanks in advance.

    Cool stuff
JL bass knobs can be taken apart (knob pulls off the “rod” for custom installs… you pull the knob off and you can access the nuts that lock up against a flat surface. Very simple , the only hard part for me was running the wire

Also keep in mind that the AC control area comes off easily so make sure you look that up to access that lower area

so far, all bass knobs i've come across will come apart to do the same thing.

but if one is set on using the jl audio models, the jl audio cl-rlc remote preamp/line driver uses the same knob as their amps, and can be integrated into any aftermarket audio setup.
