Oh me too... doesn't meant I won't fire back.
Hey look, you wanna blow YOURSELF up in a methlab? Whatever, I don't care.
As soon as it ceases to be only YOUR problem, argument is empty.
I hate people. That is why I work on machines.

@TacoTuesday603 not sure about qhere to mount one. Pipe is an option, though, not the best(noise , blah blah).
I have regular skids and exhaust, so, I can't even look....

Something other than the BFG would be good, lol. Here’s how wonky it gets. Not sure why he didn’t just make it go straight. But we are just about 1/2” short.
The distance from where the skid is, to that bolt, is how far off it is. It’s touching the exhaust at that point.
    image.jpg

Then there’s this, which is good. All the way back to the crossmember and as close to the frame as possible gives roughly 4” of separation. May need to shield that too. Lol.

Just a thought, there are those clamp on ones that use metal ties. Think those would work?
I can grab a link from Amazon once I’m back inside, but it’s from the same company @deanosaurus recommended some heat shielding stuff for.
Probably yes to purchase, if prices are cheap. Let me know how much.
We might not be getting to it until Spring anyway, since October is super busy for me.

@Chasespeed This is what I was looking at.
    This is the wrap:
    https://www.amazon.com/Design-Engineering-010058-Exhaust-Wrap/dp/B01MAW10E7?th=1
They mention good for offroad, but if you say it traps moisture, not sure how good offroad it would be.
    They then have these:
    https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/...&visitId=4304e8c0-6ee1-4da7-a914-360c5ad9fc58
    Assorted pipe shields of sorts.

I can check the receipt tomorrow. I think he wrote it down.

As far as the heat shield goes, damn near anything will work. The on pipe ones are prone to noise, etc. That is why it isn't my go to.

I've used the DE stuff for..... coming on 20+ years... But, I'm sure I still have at least I bike header here, that is trashed, and wrapped.
I use it. And hate it. If that makes sense..:notsure:I just wouldn't use it on a driver. Plenty do...

What's the date codes on them? I'd be worried you're getting into the dry rot time period on those. My KO2s are coming up on year 5 with a late 2018 date code, I think. I'll likely only run another year or two max on them even though they've got all the tread in the world. That reminds me, my spare is from my last Tacoma and is a KO with a late 2012 date code. Never seen the road, but I wouldn't want to run it for more than a few miles.

Sounds like spending $110 to save $800+ might be in your future.

I had grand plans to do all the driveline fluids tomorrow but I didn't get the fluids in time (did dealer pickup). Trying my luck with the Motorcraft GL-4 in the trans. It's all the rage in Miataland so I'm curious what it will do in my truck. I should inventory what I need to actually do the fluids and grab everything this weekend.

I did an alignment after the last set and clearly it didn't work out lol. I used my phone to measure the camber. I've got -3 degrees on one and -2 on the other so found my issue

Those DEI clamp on best shields are meh. The sheet isn't stainless nor are the worm clamps 100% stainless. I put one on the passenger secondary cat when I replaced my trans cooler lines and wouldn't have bought it if I had known those details. I hit it with high temp paint and used stainless zip ties to hold it on. It's been OK but I should have bought some stainless stock and just made my own.

I ended up doing the same with my first set of KO2s, I sold them after I bought a new set. They still had 8/32s of tread depth, and I sold them for ~$300 (they were staring to dry rotting, and one had a plug in a sidewall). It helped pay for the new set of KO2s though!

I am also curious about the Ford trans fluid for our M/Ts, I heard it is better than Redline, but I have also heard it has about the same results as Redline MT-90.

Great info. I guess I shouldn’t have bought the wrap, lol.

@TacoTuesday603 you able to buy/weld stainless stuff? I don’t mind paying for the whole ass sheet.

Are you looking to change the exhuast routing or modify the skid? I think I will be able to weld 304 with a special fluxcore wire. Can also make the heat shield out of 304 so rust isnt an issue.

If I remember I will look today. At work I use 304 all the time so I'll check if the shop has any cutoffs that would be the right thickness.

I am really happy y'all just talked about exhaust because I just remembered I haven't done the rooftop tent mounting clamps yet. I'll probably try to get that done next weekend. Worst comes to worst, the clamps work on the bars as is.

I am going to attempt one on my truck. I dont have the exhaust bending equipment so it would be piecing together purchased bent sections.

Let me give it a try this winter and I'll post here how it goes.

I finished up dialing in my easily removable bed bar setup last night. Deutsch connectors make the wiring so nice.

Its funny I'll do all the fun work really quick then it takes me 2 months to connect the two wires.

Either? But if we cut the skid, would make it super weak in that one area.
Would make a good chunk of money on that.

Also @TacoTuesday603 maybe you can start fab on shit like this:
    https://www.instagram.com/reel/CxtOsOGpoTl/

If you can’t see it at work, it’s a truck side bed with a hydraulic ram to open it up for storage.
