So....I need your thoughts on this dilemma. I drive a 2006 Tacoma TRD Off Road. It's bout to flip 200K and still going strong. I've never owned a new car/truck in my life and at 50 and about to retire I'm finally in the financial position to buy something new. I've decided to move away from a truck and get into a new 4R Off Road. My question is should I just drive this Tacoma till the wheels fall off and then get something new or pull the trigger? I'd be paying cash for the new ride, when that does happen. I almost feel guilty buying a new vehicle and replacing this Taco since it's been so good to me. I need you guys input.

Last of the current generation of both Tacoma and 4Runner.

They aren’t flawless, but both are outstanding old-school vehicles. I’m advocating for my wife to get rid of her ‘19 RAV4 and get a 4Runner before they change to the new platform. My Dad has had two of them. Great vehicles.

At 50, and no financial worries, I would take the plunge. Nothing wrong with either choice, but I started buying new when I turned 50, and don’t regret it at all.

Can you keep both? Get the new 4R and see how it goes. See what you use more. If you are in a comfortable financial position I’d get that new 4R. I have no regrets getting a new 2020 Tacoma being near retirement. I’m really enjoying it. Because, before you know it you”re in a wheelchair shoved in a corner at a LTC home and no one visits you. In the end it’s your call, not us.

Personally I'd keep it. Having something new is great, sure. But new vehicle prices are still stupid high, and going for a 4R all you're really getting is an updated interior, coil springs in the back, and no bed. They're still a 4.0 and pretty much haven't had any significant change since 2010. Some think that's great, and I don't necessarily disagree. But to pay that much money for something you pretty much already have doesn't make much sense in my eyes

I'd rock the Tacoma until it doesn't rock anymore, and being that you're in Texas I'm sure that'll be a while. If you were in the rust belt with an 06 I'd dump the truck and move on without a second thought, but I imagine your frame still looks nearly new.

If it's a matter of just being bored of the Tacoma, that's also another thing entirely. You've got the money to spend, and if a new 4R is simply what you want then go for it. But maybe instead of dropping 40+ grand on a new runner, throw a few grand at the truck to spice it up a bit. Good way to rekindle interest in a rig you've had a while
