I have a 2019 Tacoma SR5. We have two keys with the "lock - unlock - panic buttons" on the key itself. We do not have the push button start.

I want a key, that will start the truck and unlock it manually (by placing the key in the door lock), without the fob buttons on it. I guess it would be a regular chipped key. I've always hated carrying around the thick keys with the buttons on them. I haven't seen a lot of info on groups and forums about non-fob keys.

With our Wrangler, I was able to buy two chipped keys, have them cut and program them myself by placing the master key in the Jeep ignition, then, placing the new chipped key in ignition, pushing a few buttons and then the key would work like normal. I kept one hidden on the Jeep for emergencies and I carried the other for normal use.

I found Tom's Keys and see this as a possible option.

So, do I order a key and programmer from Tom's? Do I go to the dealer? Or can I do this myself by ordering a chipped key, programming it and having it cut?

    Thanks in advance!

Try a locksmith. They can cut and program keys for half the price of the stealership.

Thanks. After I posted this, I did a google search for spare keys and a ton of TW posts showed up. I could not find anything useful using the TW search feature however.

I think a lot of confusion is the fact that you have so many different kinds of keys and terminology. In short, I think what I want is an "H" key cut and ECU programmed to accept said key.

I had an aftermarket remote start installed and like the OP didn't want the key fob that came with my 2019 SR5. The guy who installed it recommended a locksmith a few miles away. For $135.00 he cut to regular "H" keys and programmed them to work with the truck.

Any competent lock smith should have the keys and programmer. They do need to have access to the vehicle as the programmer plugs in to the OBD 2 port to read the data and program the new keys.
