Afternoon fellas - it looks likely I'll be in Crested Butte for at least the next 1.5 years - likely moving up in November. I currently have 315/75/16 Patagonia MTs on a 2005 Tacoma and would like your thoughts on if that should be OK? I've been reading through some threads and can't tell where I'd fall on the 'risking my life --> drive carefully' spectrum if I do nothing and keep these tires vs acquiring some winter tires. Money will be tight. I do plan on exploring areas off the beaten path while there. Patagonia's site claims they're fine in the snow - doesn't really mention ice. But plenty of threads seem to warn pretty heavily against MTs in general in the snow.
    Thanks in advance!

MTs are not snow tires. Change them. I lived in Leadville, Avon, Gypsum, and Glenwood Springs for years and saw too many people with bad tires cause accidents. I ran General Grabber AT2 and ATx with good success.

If ur living there full time during winter (Gunnison Valley is the coldest in CO- Historically)

I would just get a cheap pair of rims go with winter tires (Dec- Mar).

    No. No. No.

Get a set of four dedicated winter tires! That is safer for everyone, including you, on those slippery ice/snow packed streets.

Absolute trash to drive in anything near freezing.

One major issue we see is ABS motors burning out from constant use.

I don't even test drive trucks with MT tires in the cold.

And know that a lot of out-of-state tourists come to Colorado, including CB, in the winter with rental cars that have worn-out all-season tires.
