I have 98 and it's about to get a new set of tires. As I'm thinking about this the spare tire is 25 years old. Originally wanted to have of the tires I'm getting replaced remounted as the spare - the truck has been a garage queen for 15+ years now and I'm only replacing the tires due to age. They have 90% percent of tread left. I called around and nobody will remount 10 year old tires. It looks like my choices are to keep the spare as-is or buy a 5th tire.

So, has anybody replaced their spare tire? What did you?

If replacing the spare, I always go full match wheel and tire with whatever you are running on the other 4 corners.

@hr206 replace with new, then you have another 10yrs before having to address it again. If you go 5 matching tires/wheels then you can rotate the spare into the equation.

A 25 year old tire is just plain old. Be a good idea to replace it. I replaced my spare the last time I got new tires, as it was a little over 10 years old. That last thing I'd want to do is have to use a spare and have it fail.

Yeah, coming to accept I need a 5th tire. I'm also seeing that 225/75R15 is not a popular size anymore, so I'll probably move to a 235/75R15 which makes it an easier decision. It's on factory steelies so not too concerned about matching wheels. Also, truck is lucky to go through 1 or 2 tanks of gas a year so don't care about tire rotations.

Not to go off topic, but I've gotten many, many sets of new tires at Discount over the past 20 years. Yesterday was the worst customer experience of all time at your Redmond WA store, waiting 2.5 hours after my appointment time before having my car looked at.
