I kept hearing a clunking from my front drivers side suspension so after some inspection it looks like my lower ball joints is worn and has some grease build up on the outside of the rubber. My trucks got a 5 inch spacer above the spring coil. If I replace the whole control arm do I need a specific control arm?

Did you do all that suspension work yourself? Thats a huge spacer and aftermarket spindle. All that is probably putting alot of stress on your ball joints

I just bought the truck a month ago as is. I absolutely love it and want to make it last. The previous owner did a lot of off-roading it even came with a roof rack made to put a tent on or so I was told.

Looks like a drop bracket lift. Hurts me to see that on a pro. Take some pictures around lower control arms and from the front of the truck. Should help point a bit better direction. Doubt the previous fella was doing much offroad with those rubber band tires.

truck has a 6" drop bracket lift (yes 6 not 5). control arms will be the same as stock. you should actually see if the balljoint has slop and is causing the noise first tho. also by the look of those wheels, side steps, and a drop bracket lift this truck didnt do much offroading.

So a coil over spacer will cause less stress on the ball joints or a drop bracket? I know there’sa5 inch spacer over my coil overs and I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure it’s got a drop bracket on it too. Isn’t that a sketchy combination?

Thanks for all the help first and foremost. I see a lot of grease build up on the bottom of the ball joints I’m pretty sure it’s on both the lca and uca driver side. If I replace these should I do both driver and passenger and both upper and lower? Can I get away with just swapping the ball joints or do I need to do the whole arm?

Pardon the mud I just got off work and rushed to snap these pics

the spacer is part of the drop bracket lift. your lower control arms are dropped 4". the spacer is 5". 4" to match shock length to the now 4" lower control arm and the extra inch to gain some lift on top to make 6" total lift.

and yes with the control arms farther apart theres less leverage on the balljoints. same reason can am just went with those ridiculously ugly a arms on the new maverick

also your bump stops arent relocated. without relocating them you bottom the shock out metal on metal causing damage

Ok thanks that makes sense so since there’s that coil spacer 5” I need the bump stops to be extended 5” ?
