    Hi, all

I'm going on a 9-day trip from around Chicago to Louisiana (the Mrs wanted to see the ocean) for our 20th anniversary. She wanted to check Memphis, possibly Nashville on the way there. We're going to camp most nights, but we'll probably stay in a hotel a night or two. Are there any spots worth checking out on the way there besides Memphis and Nashville that would be a fun drive with the taco? Any routes or anything fun like that that you guys know about? I'm planning on some highway driving, but it'll be county roads and trails with Gaia GPS when possible.

    Thank you for any suggestions.

Nashville has an exact copy of the Parthenon (size, proportions, perspective-altering architecture) ... the only one I know of outside of Greece.

EDIT: Photos, outside shot ... grounds were being "maintained", and an inside shot

I should explain "perspective-altering", if you decide it is worth your time (eh ... your vacation ...).

Although the Parthenon is regarded as the culmination of the Doric order, it has several Ionic elements, including the interior frieze (a sculptural band). It also embodies an extraordinary number of architectural refinements, which some experts believe were intended to correct for distortions in human vision. Among them are an upward curvature of the base, called the stylobate, along the ends and repeated in the entablature; an imperceptible delicate convexity (entasis) of the columns as they diminish in diameter toward the top; and thickening of the four corner columns to counteract the thinning effect of being seen at certain angles against the sky. Hence, the Parthenon’s look of perfection is an illusion.

I was familiar with the whole perspective deal. What I did not see coming what the word "frieze." I'm glad the word was linked to the definition, otherwise I would have never known that a "frieze" is part of an entablature, and it sits above the architrave, and is composed of tryglyphs and metopes. I clicked on a few words, and came out both clear, AND confused as to what every single one of them meant.

Maybe it's time to go to bed.

Don`t let your wife find out but you will be looking at the Gulf Of Mexico not the Atlantic Ocean.

Some Women might not care others it might be very dangerous .

    Speaking from experience !

    Have a safe trip.

I think she just wants to see a body of water larger than the great lakes we have around here. It's more of a bucket list trip for her, I think. That's why we're going to Memphis. Thank you! I'll try to have the best trip possible locked in the taco with my wife for 9 days, because THAT could be dangerous.

About to head back home to Illinois, but here's some pictures I managed to get. I took a lot more with my actual camera, but I'll have to get home and sort through those first.
