first off, I'm a jeep guy lol but my friend as a 2008 Tacoma with a 2.4 and is manual. we talked about trying to make it 4wd so we can go off-roading as a joke and i told him I'll get him a parts list. I don't know anything about these trucks is it realistically possible to make it 4wd.

I'm 99 percent sure it's a 5 lug but their is an emotional attachment so we want to do it. i didn't know if a 4wd transmission would match up to the 2.4

I think you’ve got a 2.7. 4wd transmission shouldn’t be a problem - but your whole front suspension will be different. Best bet will be a solid axle swap imo.

yea we will have to swap front suspensions and front axle, get a transmission transfer case, and new drive shafts, also is the 4wd transmissions manual or auto.

Yes the R155F would, it's the transmission that's in the 2.7L manual 4wd trucks. The problem is the frame, front suspension, and rear axle among other things are very different from 6 lug trucks which all 4wd trucks are 6 lug.
I have not yet seen where someone converted a 5 lug to 4wd but then again I don't go looking for such conversions as I have no interest in doing one.

The conversion would be a major major pita. It will be expensive and mucho hours of work. Not worth it on a 15 year old truck going on 16 years old. He’ll never get his money out of it and when he goes to sell it a lot of people will not want to buy a weekend warrior 4wd conversion job. He’s better off to buy a newer factory 4wd.
