Mixing RedLine Gear Oils - 2017 TRD OR

hi all, im in the middle of swapping out diff and transfer case fluids. 2 questions relating to mixing fluids...

1. i only bought 1 quart of RedLine MT-LV for the transfer case. spec is 1.1. i had assumed the 1qt would be enough but I think its a bit lower than 5mm below the fill plug. is there any locally available gear oil that I can top it off with? nobody around me carries RedLine unfortunately. I have some leftover MT-90.... could that work?
2. Im going to be 1qt short on 75W90 for the diffs. I conveniently have a 1qt squeeze bag of Valvoline full synthetic 75W90 gear oil...can do ~3.2 qts RedLine 75W90 and the rest Valvoline in the rear diff?

Sure! Here’s my opinion:

1. you’ll be fine either leaving as is or topping off as you describe. Won’t hurt a thing either way.

2. I would go ahead and top off with the Valvoline. Same weight, they’re both synthetic (even though you can actually mow synthetic and conventional without issue).

now if others chime in, there will invariably be at least one person who freaks out and says you’d be crazy to mix any oils together. These are the same guys that get out a torque wrench to tighten their lug nuts. So there you go…

 

The differentials aren't overly choosy, mixing the gear oils should be fine.

The transfer case specification is more particular, the MT-90 is not the correct product for the application. You will probably be fine just using the 1 quart you have.

When I serviced the transfer case I caught some of the draining oil in a clean container just in case I needed a bit extra, I didn't need it though.

 

Thanks for the input guys. I’m going to run the t case slightly low for a week or so and order another bottle of MT-LV but not sweat it in the mean time.
On the diff, I’m just going to mix them and forget about it.

 

I only used one quart of RL 75wt in my TC. 4 years/40k miles with no issues. I use 4wd 9 out of 10 days.
