I have a 30 year old driveway with 1" gaps between each slab. It gets very cold where I live. The original gaps were filled with some sort of concrete that has cracked and is mostly gone. Water and freezing temperatures could move the slabs right?

How do I fill this? Isn't this too wide for urethane caulking?

 

Use backer rod and sikaflex self leveling filler for gaps up to 1.5”.

 

any thoughts on how to fill voids under a driveway? Im not sure how big they are, but drainage is very poorly designed where I live and any runoff from snow melt or watering runs under my driveway and pops up about half way through at the seems.

 

sand jacking, though i've heard very mixed reviews that it stays.

 

That sounds painful...

 

I've seen people use spray can insulating foam in lieu of mud jacking. IDK if it'll work if you're trying to stop water though. Water pressure is a hell of a thing and you might have better luck redirecting the water with a French drain or similar if possible.

 

Inlaws ask if we needed a 24" door, I said yes we do. Replaced this ugly one where the water heater is with it. Now to get some trim and a knob.

 

What do I need to do to get paint to stick to my basement wall. It’s cinder block foundation and below grade all the way around. I’ve painted it before with dry lock and years later scrubbed it and let it dry then prime and paint but it still flakes off after a year or two. It’s only in this one spot.

 

You've definitely got some kind of moisture build up in that spot. Maybe a dehumidifier for a couples of days before painting?

I used the dry lock textured or sanded version on the exterior foundation perimeter before I sprayed my house with Sherwin Williams Duration flat a couple of years ago. Haven't had any issues, but AZ is dryer than a popcorn fart.

Look up Aquafin 2k. It is great for sealing difficult leaks like that and is paintable.

 

We have had a similar issue with a paint on the concrete floor. Our basement is damp so that may well be the issue.

 

That one wall is against my garage. That orange oil line is level with the garage floor on the other side and that spot is in the middle. The floor has a French drain around it to a sump on the other side. Basement and the sump are bone dry. Have always had a dehumidifier down there. The wall feels dry paint seems to stick to it nice when I paint it. Just doesn’t last.

 

A concrete or masonry sealer might work. Home Depot has one made by Foundation Armor that has pretty good reviews.

 

I’ll check that out. Wall has never been wet and never felt damp. Last time I painted it I scraped it then brushed it with a stiff brush it took what seemed like a layer of sand off the block.

 

It is what they seal cement block ponds with to hold water. Has a semi rough texture when cured that I also use for making non-slip surfaces on cement block stairs etc. Tough and inpenetrable stuff. Also sealed a roof leak from my brick chimney with a thin layer of it above the roofline, under a brown coat.

 

Does that wire go through to outside ?

water could possibly follow that line and fill the block cavities below it creating a moist spot that paint doesn't love to bond to

 

Nice. I was gonna suggest Redgard but you can't paint over it.

 

It's possible it was "contaminated" at some point in the past. It might not be moisture but maybe oil or similar was dripped or splashed there at one time many years ago. Just a thought.

 

Could have been. It’s not moisture. Basement is pretty dry
