I recently bought a pair of retrofits from another TW member for my 06. They're FX-R 3" HID projectors in oem housings. I've been noticing them shaking really badly on and off road and I'm wanting to see if there's a way to secure them better. If I grab the back of the reflector bowl and move it, it wobbles in almost every direction.

Is this just a common issue on retrofits because of the extra weight of the projector? I'm somewhat new to retrofits and just wanted to make sure there's nothing simple that I'm missing when it comes to securing the entire reflector bowl in the housing.

Is it the entire reflector bowl that is deflecting, or is the projector moving around inside of the bowl?

it's the entire reflector bowl. seems like the weight of the projector is too much for the bowl adjusters to handle or something

Yeah my retrofits shake off road, the plastic adjustment screws just flex from the weight. If yours are shaking on road too I’d check the mounting rings on the back of the projectors unless they’re JB Welded on like I did with mine.

Thanks! It looks different now, my 33s hit the fender flares the other day since I’m not lifted. It popped them off and broke the mounting spots on them, so I took them all off and am ordering a 2wd bumper to replace the stock one with mounting holes haha. I feel like I’m driving a high schoolers truck now…

I apologize that I forgot to come back to this! So I can't really help you with your current situation per se, but I can tell you that I did go back and look at my parts list notes from when I was building headlights. On my FX-R builds I used to drill a few holes in the back plastic and get threaded sleeves which I would JB weld into there. I would then have a threaded bolt go through with a rubber tip on it to push against/support the bowl.

I only did that on the big retros like the FX-R just due to the weight of the projector in the bucket. Completely forgot about all of that
