That gave me an idea. Why doesn't Toyota sell the factory experience tour like some of the high end German cars do? It would be fantastic. Just imagine getting the Benz experience for your Tacoma.

From the dealership we will book you a direct flight to lovely TJ, there you will wait until a random truck with your selected trim and color appears at our modern facility. Take a tour of the fabled brothels and pharmacies that dot the area as you put the very first miles on the odometer. (Please, for the safety of you, our staff, and our family members who wish to remain not hunted down, no photography is allowed during the tour.)

From there, you will load your new truck onto one of four rail routes and enjoy the scenic windowless journey to your home state's port distributor. As you unload your 2023 Tacoma, you will have the opportunity to test your skills and the trucks smooth 4x4 handling as you run our gauntlet challenge pit of surplus add-ons. If any of the ports unionized volunteers manage to touch you or your truck during this exciting endurance race then they award you the prize of whatever is in their hand for the incredibly low price of triple retail value. Wonderful prizes include floor mats, no-name running boards, black badge overlays, or even console organizers. A few select winners will get the extra special TSS edition prize that includes decals and a 5000 dollar price increase!

So what are you waiting for? Sign up today!

Glad it’s an easy fix, and that it’s nothing painted that was damaged.

It is possessed, and probably wants you to re-install it. But seriously, at speed, do you notice any wind noise with it off?

There was a tiny increase in wind noise on the highway. Since then I have installed sound matting in the doors and along the back wall (<--- a shocking amount of wind howl happens behind the cab); this diminished way more than what the dam delete added.

Interesting... There are videos of car radio installers putting some sound deadening material on the doors, but not everywhere on the door. Why? It seems putting some on, you are changing the resonant frequency and amplitude of those parts which are large and thin and excited by noise and vibration sources... Specially on the back wall, it's like a huge diaphragm excited by road noise coupled through the tires and suspension, but also likely placed into resonance because of the airflow between the cab backwall and the front of the truck bed (thin and large). Bernoulli effects at play. I bet one could make the cab quieter just putting sound deadening behind the rear seats. KUDOS

yep. There are multiple theories on sound deadening - I subscribed to the most popular of putting on the high density butyl in patches (diminishes the metal's ability to resonate) and then a full layer of closed cell foam over that (kills high frequency noise).

As for the back wall, I started with the infamous pool-noodle mod, where you jam a length of pipe insulation between cab and bed, just above the frame rails. Sure enough, that killed more noise than anything. It was amazing. However, I did not Like the idea of giving dirt and moisture a platform to rest upon, so I removed it and sound-lined the interior wall instead. Butyl strips plus two layers of cc foam. To my highly uncalibrated ears, it does 3/4 the job as the pool noodle did. Some sound will always come in through the rear vents. But its good enough for me.

I got a freebie and put it on for a cross country road trip, figured if it gives me 1-2mpg boost over 6k miles, great!

    ...It did nothing. :boom:

I tried giving mine away for months. Finally went to the landfill to get squished back into planet earth.
